909 Junkie's Mission Statement

909 Junkie is all about the idea of change. The kind of change that holds onto and attempts to bring back some of the classic style and soul this area known as the “909” and the Inland Empire once had. The last thing we want is for people to think that this chunk of land, in the heart of Southern California, is made up entirely of strip malls and two story assembly line houses. We know that there is more to this place than that, and we want to show it to you. This cannot be done by 909 Junkies alone…not by a long shot! That’s where the noble citizens of the 909 and the I.E. come in...
This site, if anything else, is an outlet for people to share their love of the 909 and the Inland Empire. Show us what you love the most about where you live or how unique it still remains. Be it your favorite restaurant, bar, art gallery, show venue, swap meet, theatre, liquor store, or park that makes for a great make-out session, a BBQ, or just a friendly game of freeze tag.
This influx of strip malls and cookie cutter houses is not going to stop anytime soon, and that is something we are certain of, but there remains a strong hope on the part of 909 Junkie that change is still possible, the kind of change that will make people aware of their local cultural spaces. This will be a place where people can get a bit of culture and a better understanding of their communities without having to go through the overcrowded mocha latte rich air of the Barnes and Noble (conveniently located next door to a Starbucks. Did you think that smell came from the books?) and pick up the Inlandia book. This is your chance to show someone twenty miles down the road or a thousand miles across the world what your favorite place looks like before it becomes a Denny’s next door to a Circle K next door to a sports bar. Ten years from now when raised monster trucks ridden by men with tribal tattoos and traditional trucker hats go the way of the dinosaurs, people will come to this site and see that we put up a good fight with the only weapon of choice and change…art and culture.
